Bilawal Says Government Cannot Pass Budget Without PPP Support

Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that no discussions have taken place so far regarding a proposed 28th constitutional amendment. He made it clear that neither a constitutional amendment nor the federal budget could be passed without the support of his party. Moreover, he urged the government to focus on providing economic relief to the public.

Bilawal chaired a parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Islamabad. During the meeting, the party formed a four-member committee to negotiate with the government on budget matters. The committee includes Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Saleem Mandviwalla, Sherry Rehman, and Naveed Qamar. Consequently, important discussions between the government and PPP are expected in the coming days.

While speaking to the media, Bilawal said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had assigned him to lead a peace committee following tensions between Pakistan and India. According to him, he successfully countered India’s narrative in international media. In addition, he stated that no proposal had been made to him regarding mediation in the Iran-U.S. conflict.

Bilawal also said Pakistan’s foreign policy was moving in the right direction and was always designed according to national interests. He noted that Pakistan maintains positive and independent relations with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Iran. Furthermore, he said defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia was strengthening bilateral ties.

The PPP chairman stated that his party had secured provincial rights during the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments. He claimed that representation of all provinces in the Supreme Court and constitutional court became possible because of PPP’s efforts. However, he clarified that no formal discussion regarding a 28th amendment had yet taken place.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed concern over inflation and worsening economic conditions in Pakistan. He said the public was already under severe financial pressure and warned that the upcoming budget could create additional hardships. In conclusion, Bilawal says the government cannot pass the budget without PPP Support may significantly influence future political negotiations and budget decisions in Pakistan.
